Coxswain on Sliding Seat

ROWING finds that converting the weight of the coxswain from dead to live weight- by putting him on a sliding seat- confers no speed advantage upon the shell.

Further, it should be evident from the discussion in Managing the Free Return that- at equal rower rower total power- nothing the coxswain can do by changing his shell relative motion on a sliding seat can alter the average speed of the center-of-mass of the system.
