Equal Total Rower Power

ROWING includes in its total rower power figure every aspect of the work required to drive the shell. This means not only the oarhandle work but also the external and internal momentum works done by and on the rower's own body [See Shell Work].

Because of this inclusion the total rower powers calculated by ROWING will seem larger than those published by other invesitgators.

A technical study purporting to show an average speed advantage of one rowing technique- or improvement in equipment- over another can have validity only when the comparison between old and new has been made at equal total rower power.
